As most of Europe basks in the summer sunshine, it’s only fitting that our latest Global Spotlight focuses on the palm tree and beach haven that is Miami. We’ll be diving into the incredible music from Sylvan LaCue, Dáramólá and Brika, all three of whom are creating waves with their own unique R&B blends.
Seamlessly finding the perfect balance between Hip Hop and R&B, Miami singer and producer Sylvan LaCue has been impressing with his eclectic sound for well over two years now. Of course, combining genres isn’t unheard of, but executing songs that offer a fluidity and effortlessness whilst keeping things fresh is something that only a few artists can deliver time and time again.
Whether it’s through his production or through his vocal delivery, LaCue manages to marry the two worlds wonderfully. Take his single “Televised” for example, which encompasses a smooth and grandiose instrumentation but a ruthless, unrelenting flow whilst latest cut “Grateful” channels a more mellow and laidback aesthetic all round with its choral and operatic backing vocals to take things to another level. Whilst we await for LaCue’s forthcoming Apologies In Advance which is set to drop later this year, tuck into “Grateful” and “Televised” below.

Nigerian-born/South Florida-based singer/producer Dáramólá is a name you really need to know. Beautifully blending his smooth trap-inspired productions with flecks of sounds from his Nigerian roots, Dáramólá’s music transcends genres, languages and countries and does what music is created for: makes you feel. Opening with a serene and light instrumentation on stand out single “Lotto” to allow that gorgeous voice of his pierce through the soundscape, Dáramólá introduces more layers into the mix to give the track a breezy flow. Most recent outing “Lagos City Wave” is another brilliant snippet of his talents as a producer and vocalist; a track that will wonderfully soundtrack the summer.
Having released two spellbinding projects in Nothing Really Matters from last year and The Last Time I Tried from earlier this year, Dáramólá plans to keep the momentum flowing with the release of “So Good” and “Swim Float Drown” next week – so keep a look out! For now though, enjoy “Lotto” and “Lagos City Wave” after the jump.

Ever since she released her debut single “Expectations” three years ago, Miami singer/songwriter Brika has continued to dazzle with her infectious pop cuts that leave us wanting more each and every time. Whether it’s through one of her covers in which she always brings her own unique twist, or her original compositions such as the magnificent “You” which shines from start to finish – it’s safe to say that Brika well and truly delivers on all accounts.
Hypnotic and utterly captivating, Brika’s delightful new single “Don’t Want Your Love” which dropped last month is a groove-inflected, smoky alternative-pop jam with R&B undercurrents which give it that smooth finesse. Oh, and we can’t get enough of those guitar licks! Of course, the star of the show once again is that soulful and equally sexy vocal performance which serves as the cherry on the cake. With a brand new EP on its way, we can’t wait to hear what Brika has in store for us next!
