If you’ve yet to have been acquainted with Spanish rapper Kidd Keo, then this is definitely the perfect time to do so. Brilliantly combining trap infused hip hop with his magnetic delivery and spirited flow, Keo has been impressing with his music for quite a while now.
Looking back, Keo explains how he “always knew that I was going to be a superstar” since he was just 12 years old. Having been drawn to art from an early age (his mother is an artist too), Keo recalls how he liked to paint and dance as well as making videos. With a clear drive to create art in one form or another, Keo naturally gravitated towards music, which he instantly knew it was what he wanted to do because the connection was “more strong” and that once he started, “I couldn’t stop”. As they say, the rest is history!
“TAKE IT AS IT IS – MUSIC IS SOMETHING TO ENJOY”
To say that Keo’s music is uplifting and exciting is an understatement. As soon you press play on any one of his tracks, you can’t help but vibe to it and have a good time. So, it comes as no surprise that this is exactly what Keo’s message is when it comes to his music: to “take it as it is – music is something to enjoy”.
Speaking on his creative process, Keo explains how “everything starts with the beat”. It dictates the entire feel and flow of that track as it “tells me what to write about”. This spontaneity is what makes Keo’s music that extra bit more infectious and joyful, as you can tell it was created organically and in the spur of the moment. Whether it’s a sentence, or even just a simple hook – once Keo’s in the zone and starts to feel the vibe, the rest just comes naturally.
“IT WASN’T EASY AT FIRST, I STARTED RAPPING IN ENGLISH AND WHEN I GOT MORE PRACTICE, I TRIED TO MIX IT WITH SPANISH – IT TOOK ME ALL THIS TIME TO MAKE IT SOUND LIKE THAT”.
Keo’s exceptional ability to perfectly marry verses in English and Spanish is what sets him apart from the rest. When asked about this, he explains how “it wasn’t easy at first… it took me all this time to make it sound like that”. The work put into is evident with tracks like “Foreign” which Keo performed as part of his COLORS show. It appears on Keo’s brand new mixtape Old Times in Gotham which features six songs that encompass his fiery verses over equally powerful beats.
Looking to the future, Keo’s already setting his sights on “dropping a new one [project] already” along with accompanying visuals that he’s excited to drop. Lastly, keeping his cards to his chest, he says that he has “two flights that I have to take which comes with big surprises too”. Is there a tour on the cards? I guess we’ll have to wait and see! For now though, be sure to check out Kidd Keo’s vibey performance of “Foreign” here!
